The onset of menopause is not a comforting thought for most women. Generally, menopause will occur between the ages of 42-58 and can last between 2-10 years.

While the thought of reaching menopause is not comforting to most women, spare a thought for those who have gone through early menopause, sometimes affecting women in their 20′s.

Menopause marks the end of the fertility era for women and how they deal with it’s onset can be an individual thing. Bringing with it upheaval, both mentally and physically, menopause is a dreaded phase of life for most.

A good friend of mine, Sally, recently went through two years of menopause symptoms and when I asked her how she coped she simply replied…” You deal with it the best way you can. Sometimes support just doesn’t cut it and I found when I went through one of a number of symptoms the best way I coped was to just cry it out. That’s how I dealt with it.”

Pre Menopause Symptoms

There are a number of symptoms associated with early menopause such as wild and unexplainable mood swings, hot flushes, heavy bleeding and night sweats and irregular bleeding. Hormone Replacement Therapy ( HRT ) is what most women will receive depending on each individual. No, we’re not suggesting you need to do a course on the subject and become a renowned expert but just learn enough to get by.

If you have prepared yourself enough, then it would be easy to deal with your menopausal problems. As much as possible be prepared for it mentally and physically. You’ll see the importance of preparation once you get to meet that change in your life.

The question is often asked…can a woman become pregnant during menopause. The short answer to pregnancy during menopause is yes.

Just because peri-menopause has signaled the commencement of the fertility shut down process, a woman still has periods during this time no matter how irregular they are and this means ovulation still occurs.

This is a stage when complacency has presented a surprise to more than one woman in the past and dare we say it, it will occur in the future.

Ignoring The Pregnancy Issue

Complacency is the biggest problem during peri-menopause. Why? There seems to be a genuine thought that because it occurs, a woman may be too old to have children. Many women will discard their use of contraception increasing the risk of pregnancy during menopause.

So what options does a woman have if she becomes pregnant during this time? The emotions a pregnancy can bring are quite mixed. At a time when most have just finished bringing up children the thoughts of enjoyment ahead without the shackles child rearing can bring are common.

If you find out that you are pregnant during menopause then you might feel that you don’t have many options available to you. Not necessarily true. Depending on their stance against abortion for example, some women opt to terminate their pregnancies as they know or feel that they cannot cope with the stress related to pregnancy.
Pregnancy during menopause is indeed an emotional time.

Firstly your body is going through the changes of menopause and then the pregnancy has also its own demands on the body.

It’s not all doom and gloom though. There are many women who will be very happy to find out that they are pregnant during menopause. Obviously, bringing up a child in their late forties can present women with a whole new learning phase.

In the end, the decision to have a child should be a mutually agreeable one between you and your partner. Pregnancy during menopause presents a lot of challenges, not least of all, you rearing a child while dealing with the effects of menopause symptoms.

Menopause and pregnancy; it may not be likely but the question of whether a woman can become pregnant during menopause is certainly a vexing one. The answer is yes, it is possible. Ovulation can still occur for up to a year after menopause sets in about 30% of women.

A woman’s periods can be difficult to predict during the first 12 months of menopause. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean she is menopausal. It’s estimated that for a woman to be menopausal she would have to be period free for at least 12 months. This is where the correlation between menopause and pregnacy exists; if a woman’s periods are still showing up sporadically then yes, she has a chance of becoming pregnant.

Menopause and pregnancy result in large complications

Let us suppose that you have become pregnant during menopause. You need to be aware that menopause and pregnancy is not a very good idea. This is because, menopause has a number of drawbacks among which is reducing the bone density in women, aggravating circulations problems, and many other such ailments which will be further aggravated by the pregnancy. These all along with the advancing age, which drastically reduces the elasticity of the body (also a side effect of menopause), will prove to make a pregnancy period a very challenging task.
